Paul Neuhaus (b. 1960, Benson, MN) is an artist living and working in Minneapolis.

Raised in southern California, Paul’s interest in the art and architecture of pre-European cultures of the Americas culminated in a 3-month journey through South America during his college years as an art student. After college he joined the Peace Corps and volunteered for 2 years in a small subsistence farming community in Costa Rica. Surrounded by lush landscapes, the immersive light and color deeply informed his sense of space in the visual field.

Returning to Los Angeles, Paul got his graduate degree in Architecture at UCLA and moved to live and practice architecture in Minnesota in 1992. He rose to Design Principal at Hammel Green and Abrahamson Architects in Minneapolis. His arts, community and higher education projects won numerous national and regional design awards.

Paul is currently focused fully on painting and making art. His work taps into memories and experiences that inform his colorful and highly textured paintings on paper. Paul’s process of adding and removing paint leads to spatial and formal arrangements for the eye to traverse. Combining texture, light and hue, his works dissolve the boundary between an implied physical place and pure abstraction.
